Marian Dyches (Porter)

VERNAL, UTAH - Marian Dyches Porter, age 44, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Feb. 5, 1958, to Edgel and Marie Nelson Dyches, in Salt Lake City, UT. She was educated in Midvale schools, Hillcrest High and Utah State University. Marian married Scott Hilton Porter September 8, 1978 in the Manti LDS Temple. Marian was a gifted musician, constantly sharing her talent with others. She especially touched the lives of many young people, teaching them to play the piano and to love music.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, giving a lifetime of service on both the ward and stake level. At the time of her death she was serving as an

organist in the Vernal Temple.

Marian is survived by her parents, her husband; one daughter, Dawn (Shannon) O'Neil, Logan; three sons: Jacob (serving an LDS mission in California), Nicholas, and Benjamin, both of Vernal; two brothers: David, Austin, TX; Matthew, So. Jordan; one sister, Ann, Bluffdale,; and her grandfather Joseph Dyches, Moroni.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2002, at 1:00 p.m. in the Davis 1st and 4th Ward chapel, 3990 South 1500 East. Family and friends may call at the church on Friday evening from 6 - 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 12:00 to 12:45. Interment will be in the Maeser Cemetery under direction of the Spafford Funeral Home.

I didn't know Marian in school but unavoidably think about her at least twice a day as I drive past this unique home going to and from work.  She lived here on south Vernal Ave at the time of her death.

Her father was the town barber I believe (Ed's Barber Shop near June's Cafe on State St.)
