Marleen Cali

1958-2021

Sandy, UT—Our beloved Marleen Cali passed away peacefully in her home on Monday August 23, 2021

To all who knew her, Marleen loved her family more than anything, and that includes her family of friends. after a five-year battle with Breast Cancer. She was surrounded by her immediate family.

Marleen was born in Salt Lake City on May 27, 1958 and raised in Midvale along with her 7 siblings. She graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1976 and worked for almost 20 years at O.C Tanner, and later at a variety of other jobs, in accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll. She found a great deal of satisfaction in her work and kept working as long as her health permitted.

Marleen will remembered as a strong, loving, kind-hearted mother, wife, and friend. She also loved her pets, a dog Archer and cat Luna. Her smile was contagious and she wore it often for those she loved. Marleen loved reading all varieties of books and if she wasn't reading she was most likely spending time with her husband Phil, talking with a friend, or snuggling with her pets. She described herself as an introvert but seemed more social than that as she loved arranging get togethers and always enjoyed being around friends and family. Marleen was very talented artistically, though she doubted her abilities. Luckily her children inherited her artistic genes as there were none from her children's father.

Marleen's passion was a trait that was admirable as she was never one to shy away when she believed in something. It is why so many loved her and also one of the many reasons she was able to battle cancer so ferociously over the years. She received the highest quality care from Dr. Buys and her treatment team at the University of Utah Huntsman Cancer Center and her family is ever grateful for their always compassionate and wise support. While the battle was never easy, she never complained and was able to have a quality of life throughout, until her last week . She is survived by her husband Phil and her children, Quinten, Jonathon, Matthew, and Cassandria. She is finally reunited with her daughter, Alexandria, her mother, Zelda, and her sister, Karolee. Since Marleen was never one for a lot of fanfare, small gatherings with families and friends are being arranged to celebrate her life and those those lives she touched.
